Steve Cassells began his archaeological work while an undergrad at Chadron State College in 1968. He went on to grad studies at the U. of Arizona, where he worked on a Paleoindian mammoth kill with Vance Haynes and Larry Agenbroad and gained experience with human skeletal remains under the tutelage of one of the nation’s top forensic anthropologists, Walt Birkby.
Following a 2-year tour of duty with the US Army as a 2nd LT, he began his archaeological career, serving as a U.S. Forest Service archaeologist, the Assistant State Archaeologist of Colorado, President of a cultural resource management company and many years as a college anthropology professor. During that time, he also returned to grad school and completed a PhD in Anthropology from the U. of Wisconsin. Following retirement after 35 years of college teaching, he spent four years volunteering as an archaeologist for History Flight on Tarawa and in Europe. Steve is a Registered Professional Archaeologist, an archaeologist for NecroSearch International, and a DPAA certified Scientific Recovery Expert.
